Wine Review: Malbec Number Two

So, here is another Bakespace wine review. I liked this one much better than the first Malbec I tried.

Name: Trapiche
Price: 7.99
Year: 2007

Short intro from the wine maker about the wine: Argentinian flagship variety. A rich, red-colored wine with violet hues, redolent of plums and cherries. Round in the mouth with a touch of truffle and vanilla. The ideal wine for empanadas, grilled meat, pasta, spicy cuisine and cheese.
Review: Smooth and fairly rich. Slightly dry but with much less (still a little) of the metallic finish from the other bottle I had. Good body to start and almost no aftertaste. I can taste a hint of the cherries the bottle mentions, but none of the other flavors. Oddly enough the smell (nose, right?) isn't terribly appealing, it's very sharp and acidic, almost like nail polish remover. But the actual flavor is very good.
Would you buy again?: I would definitely buy it again. In fact, I will probably be grabbing another bottle this week for when I make chicken tacos.
Wine Pairing Ideas/Recipes: It went very well with barbecue pulled pork. I could easily see it with other spicy, smokey foods. This one would go much better with mild things like chicken than the last one, it has a strong flavor but not as overpowering. But it would still be good with lamb or beef. I think it would go well with Mexican in particular.

It's hard to find red wine that goes well with spicy. I usually stick with Albarino or vermentino (both white) for spicy. Thanks for the review.

I only liked the Malbecs over ice w/7-up. =)

noble pig: no sweat! I never managed to get that second bottle to have with Mexican, but I plan on it soon and will update the post when I do.

Spryte: Heh, whatever makes you happy. ;)

We don't have Malbec very often but this sounds good. I will forward to my husband who is the wine expert at our house. Thanks for the review.

5 Star Foodie: Let me know what he thinks! :)

Dawn: Well as much as I enjoy wine, I do enjoy it best with food. :)

Vicki: No, but I'll put it on my look-for list. Thanks!

Emily: Heh, I'd email you some if I could.

Aggie: Thanks!
