Barbecue Chicken Calzone

Here's a quickie, kids, since I'm wicked busy. It's just a little something that I tossed together with the rest of the pizza dough that was leftover from the other calzones I made. I made some barbecue bacon shredded chicken and wrapped it up, as I have a wont to do. It was awesome. A little cheese is in there, although you can't see it. Is it technically a calzone? I say yes, although others will say no. But definitions are a weird thing and I want to know what you think. What makes a calzone a calzone?

I could so have that for dinner.

  2. Def think a calzone must have cheese. It doesn't have to ooze cheese, but it has to include cheese. :) But where is the line between a savory empanada and a calzone? Perhaps it' sjust a size.

  4. As long as there's a little cheese, it's still a calzone. Looks good. I love how this the crust is.

  5. Hehe! Were you talking about me? To me it's a calzone if it has ricotta, otherwise it's a stuffed bread. That's just what I know it to be. It doesn't matter because it looks yummy!

  6. I don't think a calzone needs to have cheese...after all, there are cheese-less pizzas (sad though that idea is). I think a calzone just involves pizza dough being folded over some stuff. Bbq chicken, awesome.

  8. Dajana: Thanks!

Duo: I always thought empanadas were made with pie dough...? But yeah, I agree that cheese is key.

    Angie, Jenn: Thanks!

Michele: Heh, you are one of the people I was referring too. ;) Not that it upsets me, reasonable people can disagree. I also had someone tell me once that if it's not a specific shape it's not a calzone. Which I think is just nuts.

    unconfidentialcook: thanks!

Hungry Dog: That's how I've always defined it myself.

    Spryte: Heh, thanks!
