Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Pretzel Cookies

2 sticks softened butter
1 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups a/p flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon (optional, but delightful)
1/2 tsp of salt
3 cups oats (traditional, not quick)
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup pretzel pieces

Preheat oven to 350, line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Combine flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon (if using). Set aside. Cream the butter and sugars together. Add the eggs and vanilla and beat well. Add the flour mixture and mix well. Add the oats, pretzels and chips and mix well. Dollop rounded tablespoons onto the sheet and cook 10-12 minutes. Cool for a minute on the sheet then transfer to a wire rack.

So this is pretty much a repost, since it's just my chocolate oatmeal chocolate chip cookie recipe, (man that post is old, it was my fourth way back in 2008!) minus the additional chocolate (if there is such a thing as additional chocolate) and with pretzel pieces in it. But, on the other hand it's a great, big, huge mountain of deliciousness so I just had to share.Plus my pictures are way better now. Heh.

Now, sweet and salty is kind of a controversial thing, some people love it (like me) some people think it's a crime against nature. I think those people are wrong, but hey, there's no accounting for taste. A lot of people think I'm nuts for not liking mushrooms, so what are you going to do? Me, I'm going to eat their share of the cookies. I mean, look at that. How can you not want it? Sweet, salty, chocolaty, crispy around the edges but chewy in the middle. Good times. Next time I make them I'm going to put more pretzels in, I think. You could taste them, but they weren't as strong a flavor as I wanted.

Heh, when I was measuring out the pretzels Noodles was spastic to find out what I was pouring into the bowl. She was pretty disappointed when it turned out to not be treats.

Oh man, I love to dip salty pretzels into melted chocolate or Nutella, I guess that brings me to your side, doesn't it?
Gorgeous cookies, and a lovely curious cat. My dog gets crazy while I'm chopping stuff, I have to show him I'm only cutting tomatoes sometimes, and he still doesn't believe me :))

I love sweet and salty--especially when it involves chocolate. Peanut m&ms and buttery popcorn? Bring it on! I also love mushrooms, so how about I just eat everyone's share of everything? Sounds good to me. I have a friend who puts potato chips in chocolate chip cookies...I haven't tried it yet, but I'm intrigued. By the way, I have a cocoa ripple ring in the oven for your nieces and nephew right now. Good mama, huh. :-)

LOL! No wonder Noodles grows and grows....
Using pretzels in making sweet cookies is a great idea to intensify the sweetness without adding extra sugar!

Dajana: Heh, whenever I open a can my cats think it's tuna and come running. I have to show them every time or else they just shark around me while I cook.

Mum in Bloom: Thanks for coming by!

Deb: You are a good mom. ;)

Katherine: Me too, those are the bomb.

Natashya: Thanks!

Meghan: Heh, finally another foodie who hates mushrooms!

Dawn: Potato chips? Thats even weirder than the cat I had who liked broccoli...

Hungry Dog: Thanks! Heh, you totally should get on it. ;)

Gwen: So true.

Goldie: Hey, I tried. She didn't want any. Heh.

Angie: Also true!

Pretzels! How awesome, how perfect. Pretzels is the perfect void filler for this cookie...salty and sweet! They look so good, so much texture.

Have a great weekend Bob!

Sweet and salty is one of my favorites. The cookies sound excellent. Moon would grab one of those pretzels - carry it away and munch.

sweet and salty is yummy! I saw something like this somewhere else and thought it was odd...but you put it in a way thats appealing. I never would've thought pretzels in a would be good. now i'll hve to give it a try (maybe with a portion of dough, just to test it out)

I have a recipe similar to this that I make often. I like to add dark chocolate cocoa powder and a mashed banana to keep them chewy while the pretzel provides the crunch.

You can never go wrong with somethine sweet/salty! My only problem with these is the fact that I would eat most of the pretzels before they even made it into the cookie. :-)
